o much has already been written on the world of wraith that it is far simpler to recommend sources that would help in understanding both the game and the world than to just summarize it here. Don’t feel the need to read everything just what interests you. Much of what is here is only for certain branches of wraithly society in any case. Where ever possible I have tried to delineate what groups would get the most out of a given book. Read only what you feel would enhance your experience of the game.

We will not attempt to put an order of importance on any of these books. Primarily because such an order would depend wildly on each individual character and secondly because many of the books are difficult to find, like the Oblivion LARP book.  Note: Oblivion 2ed refers to the tabletop book.

1) Oblivion 2ed. For a general background of just about everything.

2) Hierarchy everything one would want to know about playing a member of the hierarchy, and for everyone else's views on them.

3) Players Guide greater specifics on the hierarchy, renegades, history and one of the few sources for information on heretics.

4) Shadow Players Guide Ones shadow is more than just the dark side of a wraiths personality. This books is great not just for helping you develop your characters shadow but also in playing other peoples shadows as well. Lots of wonderful dirty tricks.

5) The Book of Legions For specifics on each individual legion and each of the death lords. Great for your personal legion but it is too much information to read the entire book.

6) The Guild Books For those players wishing to play guild members. You do not need to read all of them however. Unfortunately books were published for nine out of the sixteen guilds.

7) Wraith The Great War for understanding life in the maelstrom.

Other, non-wraith, books are good for background and many can be found in the Players Guide. Some of our favorites we list here:

Other Books

The Witching Hour by Anne Rice

Death and Damnation - a series of short stories produced by white wolf

The Wraith Trilogy produced by white wolf

The Amber series for understanding the metaphysics of the dreamlands.

Summon the Keeper by Tanya Huff - A comedy about gates, and the confusion that just follows death.

The works of H.P. Loveccraft - The master of modern horror does not deal specifically with wraiths but has much to say about the dreamlands and is related directly in subtle ways to the style of chronicle that we are creating.

Wraiths in Film

Movies are wonderful ways to get as sense for the world without having to spend laborious amounts of time reading. Great movies include:

Sixth Sense - about regrets and passions. Great movie.

The Crow - duh. Sequel Disappointing

Flatliners - cool movie, great atmosphere. Possibly the best movie for understanding regret and transcendence.

Betelgeuse for ideas on Haunters, renegades and probably one of the only pictures of what it is like to be a hierarchy clerk.

Stir of Echoes - vengeance and justice.

Thirteenth Floor - While on the surface this movie has nothing to do with wraiths it actually explains an extraordinary amount about the nature of the dreamlands.

Frighteners - mediums, spetres and a lighter side and for good ideas on creative uses of Archanoi and on renegade lifestyles.

The Prophecy - While not specifically a wraith movie, the issues of perpetual war are addressed in this Christopher Walken flick.

Being John Malcovich - the ultimate guide to puppetry. Very surreal.

The Fallen - while not a wraith movie per se. it is the other ultimate puppetry guide.

From the TV Series Angel: The episode "A Room with a View" in which Cordelia gets a new apartment. Great for seeing just how nasty certain Arcanoi can be. As well as frequent appearances of phantom Denis.

X Files- "The Ghosts who Stole Christmas" - A very amusing episode about love after death.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer "I only have eyes for you." - About the eternal patterns of unfinished business and how death mirrors life.

Many many more books and movies exist which are both fun and informative, more will be added to this list as time passes. Also, if you have a book you would like to recommend please email it to me.

Plays

The Woman in Black - An interesting little gem of a play based on the book of the same name.

Certain Shakespearian plays like Hamlet and Mac Beth have some bearing on understanding what drives ghostly existence.
