Wraith Character Creation Outline
The purpose of this document is to provide a quick reference for creating characters. It is not meant to be a definitive authority on the rules. If there are contradictions consult the STs for clarification.
Wraith in some ways places an even greater emphasis on events surrounding a characters life before death than many of the other systems. The first reason is that the process of becoming a wraith is a rebirth unlike any other leaving the character in an entirely new world. This process is mirrored in the players who usually come into the game knowing nothing but after a time grow to understand their world alongside their character. The second is that wraith is about unfinished business all these things that were left unfulfilled unfinished or undone. These regrets will haunt a wraith for eternity.
It is crucial before paper is set to pen (or vice versa) that all of these issues are fully worked out.
Life: Generally speaking this was your character's profession before death. It doesn't have to be your character's work but most people define who they are by what they do.
Death: How she died. Accident? Gunshot wounds? Old Age?
Regret: This is the big one. What keeps her around or that which was so dreadfully important that it will bother her for an eternity.
Attributes: The traditional 7-5-3. With a maximum of 5 negative traits. These are really important to role-play so consider how you want to play your character in selecting these.
Abilities: 5 abilities to start with. All wraiths get two languages free: Their native language and the language of the dead, which is in many ways more an innate ability.

Fetters: 4 fetters, unless the age background is taken. Any Person, Place or Thing that is important to your character. The physical connections that keep her tied to this world. Should be things that have strong emotional attachments: place where you died, a home, family member, lover, or even an enemy.
Passions: 4 driving goals. Should be of the form: action (emotion). The action is something your character feels it is important to do. The emotion is what drives it and indicates something of the reason why she feels this way. Thee should be tied into the regret.
Merits/Flaws: Characters may take a maximum of 10 points of merits (must be bought with freebee points) and may take up to 7 points of flaws.
Arcanoi: Characters get five dots (levels) of arcanoi. Each dot corresponds to an arcanoi of level one through three. Characters may start with multiple arcanoi of the same level (i.e. two level 1 inhabit powers) but must fulfil level requisites: you can't have a level three without taking a level two. The innates for an arcanos are free when you spend a dot for a level one arcanoi.
Freebee Points: 5 points. Also negative traits and flaw points count as freebee points for the purposes of character creation. See chart.
The Shadow
Every wraith has its dark side. Manifest from all of the negative energy that helped bring the wraith to this side of the shroud the shadow is an independent consciousness residing within the wraith's mind. Shadow's have two goals: 1) to turn the character into a spectre 2) to send the character into oblivion.
Permanent Angst: All shadows start out with one permanent angst.
Archetype: Just like a wraith's Nature a shadow's archetype is his basic personality.
Dark Passions: Every shadow has two dark passions that drive it. These are in many ways the same as the wraiths passions with one major difference. They represent all of the wraiths darker needs and wants. Dark passions should revolve around desires to hurt or kill, for gluttonous pleasure or just to control. They may stem from the noblest motivations but whatever the shadow touches it corrupts.
Freebee Points: Every shadow gets five points to spend on thorns and the like.
